CBA is a Sports Academy with “world class” goals and standards.

Nearly all boarding students and a majority of day students at CBA are student/athletes with a passion for competitive skiing, snowboarding or cross-country running. They have exceptionally high goals in these sports and a work ethic appropriate for reaching these goals. Some of our day students have special interests in drama, music, art and other academic areas which they are granted time to pursue.

We have extraordinary coaching staffs not only for our special focus sports – but also for our winter and spring sports which include mountain biking, white-water kayaking, rock climbing and other wilderness activities unique to our mountain environment.

CBA takes special pride in our “Cooperative Community”.

Students and staff work together at CBA to build and sustain a values-based culture as opposed to a school based on rules and punishments.

We have a saying that “we teach obedience to dogs, and values to humans.” We have a strong Honor Code and a Guide to Community Values that provide a compass for productive and ethical behavior in all aspects of our lives.

CBA students are challenged “every day,

everywhere, with every person they meet – to earn respect for themselves, their families and Crested Butte Academy.” We are committed as a community of teachers and students to build a world-class school in our small mountain town. We take this challenge seriously. We have set the bar very high for ourselves, and we are committed to jump over it.

The mission of our Athletic program is to develop student athletes for long-term success. Crested Butte Academy also has a goal of being the very best sports academy in America.
