The district conducts comprehensive evaluation of student achievement regularly. Student achievement is based on multiple assessments including standardized tests. The Comprehensive Test of Basic Skills is administered to all students in grades K-9. Teachers use curriculum based assessment regularly intheir classrooms to plan corrections and enrichments for students.


Enrichment activities are available at all of the district's elementary schools. Various clubs and interscholastic competitive sports are offered at the Jr. High level. High school students may chose to participate in a wide array of special-interest activities. Examples include:

* Orchestra
* Band
* Choir
* Student Government
* Student Newspaper and Yearbook
* Track
* Volleyball
* Football
* Wrestling, and
* Basketball

Regional Information

Afton, Wyoming is the population center of a group of smaller towns which make up Star Valley. Incorporated towns in Star Valley include Afton, Thayne, and Alpine. Also included in the district is Cokeville, Wyoming, located 53 miles south of Afton.

Afton has many sights of interest, including the world's largest elkhorn arch and one of two intermitting springs in the world. Groomed cross country skiing and snowmobiling trails help to pass the long winter days. Afton also has the new Star Valley High School which was constructed in 1998.

On the north end of Star Valley in Alpine is the beautiful Palisades Reservoir where the Salt,Snake and Greys River converge and form a great spot for boating and fishing.

Known as the 'hub' of the Oregon Trail, Cokeville has many attractions for the history buff. Located in Cokeville is the Pine Creek Ski area, featuring 14 downhill runs for ski enthusiasts. Cokeville also has the new Cokeville High School which was constructed in 1999.
