Whether students attend Oak Harbor schools for their entire careers or just pass through for a year or two, all students receive the attention and training necessary to pass graduation requirements at any public school, in any state.
Oak Harbor schools have a hard-earned reputation for excellence, borne out by a graduation rate of 86.1 percent, well above the statewide average of 75.7 percent. Our students stay in school despite the fact we set the bar higher with 23 required credits, four credits above state requirements. They also score well above state goals on state-required WASL exams and score higher on Iowa Basic tests than the national average. Our graduates last year received almost $1 million in scholarship offers.
This achievement is thanks to a remarkable group of teachers, motivated students, a caring community, and the foresight of a school board that set the goal of providing one computer for every five students. That goal was achieved last year with the district reaching 1,899 networked computers.
