A Brief History of Hampstead
Hampstead is a town made up of two segments, one from the town of Haverhill and the other from the town of Amesbury, both in Massachusetts, it being cut off from those towns by running the state line in 1741, which threw this town into the state of New Hampshire. The original name was Timber Lane, there being an abundance of oak, walnut, chestnut, maple, elm, pine and cedar.
