These are exciting times for the students of Grand Island. A look back at our progress over the last few years depicts a significant amount of growth and improvement in many areas such as:
* Continued gains in student achievement for ALL students. In fact, based upon last year‚s Iowa Test of Basic Skills, Grand Island students are scoring at the 60th percentile. This number means that Grand Island students score higher than 60% of the students in the nation. This is phenomenal growth when compared to the 44th percentile of six years ago.
* These gains are the result of a focused curriculum and the 1200 highly dedicated and nationally trained team of professional and support staff. Simply put, we have some of the greatest staff in the Midwest working with our students.
* The passage of a bond issue last year to build a new Middle School and renovate to the existing Middle Schools is the beginning of an exciting ten-year plan to allow the district to manage the expected growth in population.
* A Board of Education that truly places the education of children as the absolute highest priority for decision-making.
We are keenly aware that there continues to be a great deal of hard work ahead. We pledge to our parents and patrons that we will continue to be tenacious in our resolve to ensure that EVERY child receives a world class education while at the same time being good stewards of taxpayer investments.
While we are pleased with our results to date, we are even more excited at the prospects for the future. Thank you for your past support and your willingness to continue your commitment to educational excellence at GIPS.
