Wichita Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):

Speech Language Pathologist (Multiple Positions Available)

Location: Multiple Locations

Position Function: The Speech and Language Pathologist is responsible to the Administrators of the buildings served and to the Coordinator of Speech-Language. The Speech-Language Pathologist provides services to identified speech-language impaired students, consults with staff regarding speech-language needs of students, and participates in MTSS building wide by providing communication, literacy, and behavior support.

Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Informs faculty members of the speech-language program. This includes providing information concerning method of referrals, intervention strategies, MTSS supports, testing procedures, and scheduling students for speech-language therapy
- Organizes and manages a schedule based upon the needs of each school and students, within the limits prescribed by Kansas State Department of Education and the Kansas Guidelines for Speech-Language Services
- Follows the appropriate state guidelines and district policies and procedures relating to speech-language services
- Meets the individual needs of students by developing materials for use in speech-language therapy, facilitation of classroom communication, and MTSS
- Maintains an accurate attendance log that reflects services provided during the year and files the original in the student official special education file then submits a copy of this log to the Speech-Language Coordinator upon checking out at the end of the school year
- Logs Medicaid for each student on the assigned caseload and keeps Medicaid logging up to date by the last working day of each month
- Participates in the comprehensive evaluation or reevaluation of students identified with a speech-language concern
- Maintains current Individualized Education Plans for students on the assigned Speech-Language caseload with appropriate goals and objectives that address individual student need
- Attends meetings of the Child Study Team when appropriate
- Serves as a resource person for school personnel, study groups, and community organizations
- Serves on projects as designated by the Coordinator

Additional Duties: Assists with additional duties as assigned.

Equipment: The employee must demonstrate the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers, scanners, copiers, and fax machine. Must always comply with USD 259’s guidelines for equipment use.

Travel: Limited travel between schools and central offices may be required.

Physical and Mental Demands:
- Work in standard office and school building environments
- Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities
- Additional demands upon request of Supervisor

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate both verbally and written in order to communicate with others inside and outside of the organization for the purpose of giving and obtaining information
- Basic computer proficiency and the ability to effectively use Microsoft Word and Outlook which will be determined and validated by testing
- Use of good judgment to make decisions on recurring assignments
- Ability to communicate effectively with a supervisor when their discretion is needed
- Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality
- Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance
- Knowledge of company's mission, purpose, goals and the role of every employee in achieving each of them

Interrelations:
- Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors
- Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks
- Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy
- Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues
- Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service

Employee Punctuality and Appearance:
- In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position

Qualification Profile:
- Master’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders meeting the qualifications to hold a license in Speech-Language Pathology through the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services preferred
- New graduates who qualify for a temporary license in Speech-Language Pathology and provide licensure and Clinical Fellowship Year supervision needed to obtain full licensure in the State of Kansas and the Certificate of Clinical Competence through ASHA accepted but subject to completion of program for renewal of contract beyond 1 year
