Wichita Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):
Technology Teacher - Industrial Tech
Location: West High School
Position Function: Teaches and facilitates learning for the Manufacturing Production (Metals/Machining) pathway, maintaining academic progress, discipline, and records for students at the high school grade level. Works with parents and students to provide and implement classroom education to meet the needs of all students.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Instruct through lectures, discussions and demonstrations in one or more courses of the Manufacturing Production Pathway, including but not limited to Introduction to Technology, Mass Production 1, Mass Production 2, and Materials and Processes, covering all competencies associated with these courses.
- Proficient in all processes and technologies used in Metals.
- Emphasize safe shop practices through safety instruction on equipment, safety tests and documentation of those actions.
- Ensure that all equipment is in safe operating condition, contacting the Career and Technical Education office for work order repairs as needed.
- Participate in pathway advisory committee meetings coordinated by the Career and Technical Education Office.
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
- Collaborate and communicate with staff to meet the educational needs of students.
- Create, administer, and grade tests to evaluate student progress.
- Establish and enforce rules and procedures which help to maintain order in the classroom.
- Observe, evaluate, and prepare reports on the progress of students. Discusses students’ problems and progress with parents and staff.
- Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
- Prepare classroom instructions to promote students’ success on state assessment exams.
- Observes, enforces and is directed by the policies, rules, and regulations adopted by the school district.
Additional Duties: Assists with additional duties as assigned by supervisors
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
- Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend, twist balance, stoop, climb steps, reach overhead, lift up to 50 pounds
Equipment: Must be able to use basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must be able to operate industrial equipment used in the Manufacturing Production pathway. Must always comply with USD 259’s guidelines for equipment use.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students
- Ability to maintain a classroom of approximately 25 to 28 students
- Ability and patience to work interactively with students
- Skill in organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to deliver teaching instruction in accordance with improved curriculum and standards
- Excellent skills in verbal and written communication
- Ability to understand the individual needs of each student
- Ability to effectively use Microsoft Outlook and the student information system
Interrelations: Contact with students, instructional staff, administrators and the community. Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy. Must exhibit a professional manner and maintain a positive attitude at all times.
Employee Punctuality and Appearance:
• In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.
• Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator.
• All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position.
Qualification Profile:
- Current Kansas State teaching license
- Classroom teaching experience preferred
FSLA Status: Exempt
Department Specifics: Required Teaching License Endorsements: Industrial Arts Comp, or Comp Industrial Technology, or Techology Education
