Wichita Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):

Elementary Assistant Principal (2017-2018 School Year)

Location: Unassigned

Position Function: The assistant principal is directly responsible to the building principal and assist in the administration, supervision, and evaluation of the educational program and supportive services/activities in the school.

Essential Performance Responsibilities:
Setting Direction:
- The assistant principal assist the building principal and supports all stakeholders representing the school community in developing the vision, mission and goals of the school
- The assistant principal supports the implementation of the school improvement plan
- The assistant principal assist the building principal’s use of data to monitor and adjust as necessary the action plan and goals of the school improvement plan

Developing all students:
- The assistant principal will assist the building principal to develop and implement a proactive and positive approach to behavior management
- The assistant principal assist the building principal in ensuring all students are making academic progress by monitoring the instructional programs
- The assistant principal the building principal ensures instructional guidelines are in place and teachers are following the district adopted course and grade level standards and teachers are following the curriculum with fidelity
- The assistant principal supports all students have access to the core curriculum and that teachers differentiate instruction and intervention based on student data
- The assistant principal supports students having access to a variety of activities that support their leadership, physical, emotional, social and attitudinal growth
- The assistant principal supports students having access to services that support mental, physical, and emotional wellness for every student

Developing Staff:
- The assistant principal will assist the building principal in evaluating all staff members for the purpose of improving student growth, identify professional learning needs, promoting teacher leadership, and making decisions
- The assistant principal monitors instruction through observations, coaching conversation and provides necessary feedback to enhance teaching and learning
- The assistant principal may be involved in recruiting, hiring, assigning, disciplining, and dismissing school staff
- The assistant principal supports a positive culture of learning and collaboration necessary to create and support high levels of learning for all students
- The assistant principal will support distributive leadership opportunities for staff

Making the Organization Work:
- The assistant principal promotes the success of every student and staff by ensuring management of the organization, operation and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment
- The assistant principal supports a culture of collaboration, trust, learning and high expectations for all
- The assistant principal builds and sustains partnerships with families and community partners
- The assistant principal follows established timelines and guidelines for all of the elements required by federal, state and district policies
- The assistant principal will maintain high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary and assures due process for students when appropriate
- The assistant principal assumes responsibility for routine administrative and supervisory tasks (i.e. enrollment, attendance, transportation, SPED, ELL, school sponsored events, etc.)
- The assistant principal assumes responsibility for the administration of the school in the absence of the building Principal
- The assistant principal supports a safe learning environment by adhering to all crisis plans, school wide behavior plans and policies

Additional Duties: The assistant principal will be responsible for other duties which may be assigned by the Building Principal and/or Assistant Superintendent of Elementary/Secondary Schools.

Equipment: The employee must demonstrate the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers, scanners, copiers, and fax machine. Must always comply with USD 259’s guidelines for equipment use.

Travel: Limited travel between schools and central offices may be required.

Physical and Mental Demands:
- Work in standard office and school building environments
- Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities
- Additional demands upon request of Principal, Superintendent

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate both verbally and written in order to communicate with others inside and outside of the organization for the purpose of giving and obtaining information
- Basic computer proficiency and the ability to effectively use Microsoft Word and Outlook which will be determined and validated by testing
- Use of good judgment to make decisions on recurring assignments
- Ability to communicate effectively with a supervisor when their discretion is needed
- Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality
- Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance
- Knowledge of company's mission, purpose, goals and the role of every employee in achieving each of them

Interrelations:
- Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors
- Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks
- Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy
- Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues
- Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service

Employee Punctuality and Appearance:
- In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position

Qualification Profile:
- A current KS Building Administration License is required
- 3 years of teaching experience is required; 5 plus years of teaching experience is preferred
- Must have advanced technology skills
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written
- Knowledge of public school operations
- Ability to deal with confidential matters
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds; (i.e., community, administrators, teachers, substitutes, classified, students, etc.)
- Ability to listen, is organized, detail oriented, and is a self-starter
