Kansas City Kansas Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):

General Education Homebound Teachers - Part Time

Location: Special Education Department - General Education Certified Teachers Can Apply Without Special Education Certification for Central Office department.

Job Goal: To organize and implement an instructional program to meet the needs of students who are unable to attend school for medical reasons.

Essential Functions:
Instructional Strategies
- Pick up and deliver student assignments
- Implement instructional activities provided by student’s teacher of record, including any modifications/accommodations designed in the homebound instructional plan
- Provide effective instruction that is clear, compelling, and engaging, while considering learning style of the student
- Manage materials and equipment effectively
- Use appropriate student behavior management techniques

Student growth and development:
- Monitor student performance to improve student success
- Be a positive role model for students
- Provide positive and successful opportunities for student to develop positive self esteem
- Coordinate the school work of the regular class and the homebound student
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits

Program management and organization:
- Complete reports and paperwork in a timely manner
- Manage materials and equipment effectively
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect student, equipment, and materials
- Use appropriate technology in instructional delivery
- Use appropriate student behavior management techniques in accordance with the student code of conduct and student handbook
- Assist in utilization of books, equipment, and other instructional materials
- Complete report at end of the homebound assignment.

Qualifications:
- Meet the employment qualifications set forth by the Kansas City, Kansas Board of Education and the Kansas State Department of Education.
- Hold or be eligible for Kansas certification appropriate for the position
- Show initiative, creativity, self-motivation and good judgment.
- Demonstrate good judgment, adaptability and flexibility.
- Respect confidentiality.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, professional judgment, oral and written communication
- Be efficient and organized in “paper management”

Communication:
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, and guardians
- Contact student’s teacher /counselor regularly to secure assignments and any special information needed to provide adequate instruction
- Communicate effectively, accurately, and clearly, both orally and in writing, with other professionals
- Collaborate with student, guardians, school staff, and other appropriate persons to assist in meeting students’ needs
- Serve as liaison between the school and home for delivery of instructional services

The work environment is the student’s residence. Someone over the age of 18 must be present when the instructional services are delivered, so the instructor is never alone in the residence with the student. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and is a standard acceptable level for this environment. Is directly responsible for students’ safety, work output and well-being.

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication.

Terms of Employment: Part-time intermittent during the days that students are in school

Salary: Based on KCKPS Salary Schedule

FLSA Status: EXEMPT

Reports To: Director of Special Education/Homebound Coordinator

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board of Education policy

Primary Location: Central Office and Training Center

Salary Range: Per Hour

Shift Type: Part-Time
