Superintendent's Welcome Message
As public educators, we work with and represent the three most important assets that our community has to offer: its children, its tax dollars and its trust. It's highly imperative to be forthright, honest and a straight talker. This is the only way to create and maintain public confidence in a school district, and it is an approach the MSD of Decatur Township strives to keep at the core of conducting corporation business each day. It's also the approach we use when the daily routine is interrupted by events on a larger scale.
We're a team, from top to bottom and including all members of the community. The actual workings of the corporation follow that same style of partnering. My administrative style is that of a collaborator; I believe that by empowering the staff at all levels in the decision-making process, it results in stronger decisions and acceptance for all involved. Shared decision making allows for thorough input and a building of consensus through collaboration. All aspects of the school corporation can function more effectively when the risk-holders are involved.
MSD of Decatur Township has always had the reputation of being a strong leader in curriculum for the children. The programs the corporation has in place make it a wonderful place to learn. Add to the curriculum a roster of great administrators, teachers and other personnel all the way through and you have the Metropolitan School District of Decatur Township. I hope you will be part of our efforts in continuing those traditions.
But our times require more than just top-notch instruction to meet the needs of our students. While bricks and mortar are secondary to classroom instruction and positive role models, a building program that includes aggressive renovation plans is a priority in MSD of Decatur Township's future.
Renovation, expansion or construction projects, however, won't just be done for the sake of having a new structure; the township's explosive residential growth dictates planning and making more space for the flood of students that seems to be a certainty in the next decade. I'm a firm believer that, with growth, you always have to look ahead. You can't go too far, but you have to stay on top of it.
Along with being a monumental task, guiding MSD of Decatur Township through the uncharted waters that lay ahead will be a rewarding and exciting time for the hundreds of administrators, teachers, support staff, families and community leaders who offer their time, efforts and caring touch.
We thank you for your appreciation of our efforts in helping your children develop. The MSD of Decatur Township will return the favor with continued displays of dedication to our jobs and the goal: turning out the most productive graduates possible through years and years of hard work and enjoyment of each other.
