Indianapolis Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):

Graduation Coach

Location or Department: Student Services

Summary: Coordinates and implements school based dropout prevention strategies and programs at the secondary level.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Establish and lead school based dropout prevention teams.
2. Provide school and individual dropout prevention services.
3. Assist in the development of long-term and short-term intervention plans consistent with curriculum; students’ needs, strengths, diversity and life experiences; and social and emotional factors.
4. Assists the school and community in planning programs that alleviate situations that may interfere with the learning process of students.
5. Plan and facilitate parent involvement activities.
6. Coordinate efforts with the Graduation Coaches assigned to each of the high schools.
7. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with school departments, community and civic groups that interface and support the goals of the district’s dropout prevention / graduation efforts.
8. Establish and maintain communication links with community agencies that serve homeless, delinquent, and disengaged students for the purpose of re-engaging affected students.
9. Facilitate the collection and use of data as directed by the Director for Graduation and Alternative Services.

Education and Experience Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work or Counseling with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience within the school setting. Master’s degree preferred.
2. Must hold or be eligible for an Indiana educator’s license
3. Strong organizational and management skills.
4. Strong leadership skills.
5. Ability to make oral presentation in front of large groups
6. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other professional staff members
7. Ability to build positive relationships with both internal support services personnel and outside agencies
8. Ability to effectively express ideas orally and in writing
9. Ability to collect, analyze and develop meaningful reports of statistical data

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, lesson plans, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine correspondence. Good communication skills and the ability to speak effectively before groups of students and one-on-one with parents

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to analyze and assess project needs and make recommendations pertaining to the implementation, the ability to carry out detailed and involved written or oral instructions, as well as the ability to utilize courtesy and tact when communicating with others to deliver clear and concise messages.
