Indianapolis Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):
Special Education Teacher Secondary - Learning Disabilities
Location or Department: Broad Ripple Magnet High School Performing Arts
Job Summary: Teaches basic academic subjects to students requiring modified or adapted work, using special techniques or programs to improve behavior and/or academic achievement by performing the following duties.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Education (B.A. or B.S.) from a four-year college or university.
- At least three (3) years of successful teaching experience. Valid Indiana Teaching License in Special Education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Teaches basic subjects such as reading and math, applying lesson techniques designed for short attention spans.
- Administers achievement tests and evaluates test results to discover level of language and math skills.
- Selects and teaches reading material and math problems related to everyday life of individual student.
- Confers with school counselors, school psychologists, and teaching staff to, obtain additional testing information and to gain insight on student behavioral disorders affecting the learning process.
- Designs special help programs for low achievers and encourages parent teacher cooperation
- Attends professional meetings, writes reports, and maintains records.
- Discusses pupils' academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with parents.
