Kenwood KCU Supersite - Teacher (12 to 14 needed)

Summary:
Lead a class of 15 students with the goal of reversing summer slide in reading, writing and math. All students have a demonstrated need in literacy. Classroom teachers will instruct in all subject areas (reading, writing and math). Teachers have autonomy in developing strategies that will best meet the needs of their learners. The Program Director will communicate the priority standards and provide curriculum support as desired. But teachers who are innovative, creative, nimble and proven will find the flexibility and support of this structure extremely attractive. Hands on experiences are encouraged and there is some funding to bring in materials that can help students grasp concepts through doing. Teachers will have compensated planning time for 40 minutes each day while students are at enrichment class and will oversee lunch/recess daily. The summer program runs from June 18th – August 3rd (no classes on July 4th and 5th). Teachers will lead classes every Monday – Thursday during the program and every other Friday. Student hours will be 8:30 – 1:30 with Teacher hours being 8:00 AM – 1:45PM. Mandatory training is June 14th and 15th from 8:00AM – 1:00PM. A position may be split between 2 teachers. Endorsements:
- BA in Elementary Education
- Reading Endorsement, preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Duties must be performed on site. Other duties or tasks may be assigned.
· Lead a class of 15 students with the goal of reversing summer slide by using engaging reading, writing or math strategies
· Instruct in assigned subject areas (reading, writing and math)
· Use the priority standards and provided curriculum materials with fidelity
· Compensated planning time for 40 minutes each day while students are at enrichment class
· Oversee lunch/recess duty to build relationships with kids
· Collaborate with other KCU staff
· The summer program runs from June 18th – August 3rd (no classes on July 4th and 5th).
· Teacher hours are 8:00 AM – 1:45 PM Monday – Thursday
· Support enrichment activities every other Friday
· Mandatory training is June 14th and 15th from 8:00AM – 1:00PM.
· Act as point of contact for families by communicating weekly with families with phone calls and newsletters and one Parent Night event
· Reports to KCU Lead Teacher at the site
· Plans for substitute in case of absence
· Other duties as assigned.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Iowa Teaching Certification with an endorsement in reading preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and implement ideas contained in technical documents, assessment data, professional journals and regulations. Ability to effectively write reports and communications to students, colleagues, parents and staff. Ability to effectively present information orally and respond to questions from administrators, teachers, staff and students. Ability to assist students in the areas of language and literacy.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to perform basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals and fractions. Ability to assist students in implementing these mathematical concepts.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve problems effectively. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus while supervising students and working with computers, written materials, reports, assessment data, etc.
