THE DOMUS VISION:
No child shall be denied hope, love, or a fair chance in life.
THE CORE PRINCIPLES OF DOMUS
Our work is about the kids.
Everyone should be treated with respect and dignity.
We believe in viewing and developing the strengths of our youth, staff, and families.
We engage in a holistic approach to serving and supporting our youth and their families.
Loving relationships change people.
People should have many chances to learn and grow from their mistakes.
Youth and families are resources in creating programs, not just recipients of services, and should therefore have a strong voice in the decision-making process.
Consequences should teach people new skills, not merely punish them.
We set high standards. There is always room for improvement.
Our programsí environments are safe, inviting, attractive, and inclusive.
We should provide opportunities for young people which connect them with their community.
The celebration of successes, life events, and holidays is important to the growth of individuals, families, and communities.
We never give up on people.
Trailblazers Academy Charter School
Started in September 1999, Trailblazers is a collaborative project of Domus, the Stamford Public Schools, and the City of Stamford. Designated a state charter school, it serves middle school students who are not succeeding academically or behaviorally in a traditional public school setting. With small class sizes (one teacher and one educational assistant per twelve students), voluntary service in the community, and a life skills curriculum, Trailblazers Academy is an additional choice parents have if they are concerned with how their children are performing in school.
Stamford Academy High School Brand new school this year.
