Shelby County Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):

Executive Director - DAY Program

Location: Shelby County Schools

Starting Date: 7/1/2018

Qualifications:
1. Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional work experience. A master’s degree with a major in educational administration preferred.
2. At least five years successful experience in public education, business, or other non-profit organizations.
3. Knowledge of principles and effective practices of programs and strategies for working with at-risk youth.
4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the DAY Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
5. Must successfully complete a criminal background check and drug screening.

Reports To: DAY Board of Directors

Job Goals: To use effective leadership and administrative skills in order to promote the educational development of all students ensuring the safe, effective, and efficient operation of the DAY Program.

Performance Responsibilities:
Instructional

1. Supervise the school’s educational program and be regular and punctual in attendance.

2. Assist in the development, revisions, and evaluation of the alternative programs offered at the school.

3. Monitor, evaluate and modify instructional programs based upon individual needs.

4. Initiate and participate in professional development activities for self-improvement.

5. Coordinate activities with faculty and staff to implement school-wide programs and goals.

6. Coordination of transition of students from DAY Program back to their home school.

School Improvement/Public Relations

1. Communicate positively for public education in Shelby County.

2. Maintain and promote confidentiality for staff, students, parents, courts, and all school related business. Insure all staff are instructed to maintain such confidences.

3. Support and collaborate activities and functions with civic organizations, juvenile court, and the Shelby County school community.

4. Support the concept of a customer/client relationship with students, parents, and the community.
Supervisory

1. Direct and supervise all teachers, clerks and other school employees assigned to the DAY Program.

2. Collaborate with the DAY Board of Directors in screening, hiring, training and assigning employees.

3. Observe and evaluate both certified and support employees in assigned programs according to policy and procedures of the DAY Program.

Supervision/Students

1. Assume responsibility for the supervision of each student for school or school sponsored activities.

2. Establish program and building policies and procedures that promote a positive atmosphere and maintain the dignity of students, staff, and parents.

3. Adhere to and follow the minimum guidelines published in the Shelby County School’s Code of Conduct and Attendance.

Administering

1. Assume responsibility for the organization, administration, and supervision of the school and all activities therein for the promotion and marketing of the DAY Program.

2. Assume responsibility for the maintenance, care, and safe keeping of the facility.

3. Requisition supplies and equipment, conduct inventories, maintain records, and check on receipts for such material.

4. Assume responsibility for collaboration, coordination, and facilitation with all program leaders in the facility to insure effective overall programs and operation.

5. Collaborate and coordinate the preparation and maintenance of all required reporting and record keeping with DYS, United Way, DAY Board Members, and any other funding or licensing agency.

6. Develop, implement and supervise the maintenance of accurate records on academic progress, attendance, discipline, referrals and a procedure for other required student records and reports.

7. Assume responsibility for implementing and observing local DAY Board, state, and federal policies and regulations and enforcing these with staff, students and parents.

8. Annually review and update required policies such as the privacy act, ADA requirements, ADHD, student harassment, and DAY Board policies.

9. Assume and coordinate responsibility for school bus transportation at the school, where services are provided.

10. Plan and supervise all fire drills, tornado drills, and an emergency preparedness program.

11. Coordinate activities involved in applying for and seeking additional funds through grant writing, fund raising, etc.

12. Arrange for substitute teachers as needed.

13. Attend and supervise school-sponsored activities and functions where applicable.

14. Arrange and coordinate supervision for after-hours activities or programs.

15. Plan and facilitate regularly held faculty meetings requiring all instructional staff to attend.

16. Attend DAY Board meetings according to policy.

17. Be regular and punctual in attendance. Designate appropriate personnel when absent. If absent for extended amount of time other than medical emergency, see prior approval from DAY Board.

18. Perform other duties as assigned by the direction of the DAY Board.

Terms of Employment: Annual contract. Exempt employee.

Salary: $58,650 - $80,000 Annual

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the DAY Board’s policy.
